Position Overview
The Food Service Manager is responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of food services in a K-12 school setting. This includes managing day-to-day operations, maintaining compliance with nutrition and safety regulations, and fostering a positive environment for both staff and students.
Duties/Responsibilities
Meal Preparation and Documentation
Responsible for overseeing the Food Service Team in cooking, serving, and documenting meals and snacks for students in a K-12 program.
Collaborate closely with the Food Service Director and the School Leadership Team to plan, coordinate, and execute comprehensive Child Nutrition Menus, catering services, and special events.
Operational Oversight
Oversee daily operations at school locations where food and beverages are prepared and served, ensuring a smooth workflow and optimal service delivery.
Conduct onsite reviews of food production, preparation, and sanitation practices to comply with district, federal, and state guidelines.
Work collaboratively with the various Regional and Schools Leadership Teams to identify areas for improvement within the food service operations and implement effective solutions.
Schedule employee work hours to guarantee adequate coverage for all shifts.
Compliance and Training
Work in tandem with the Food Service Coordinator to maintain compliance with Child Nutrition Program regulations during regular audits and inspections.
Develop and implement recipes that adhere to nutritional guidelines, including meal contribution calculations, costing, production, and presentation.
Team Development
Train and supervise production personnel, assisting in menu preparation and establishing food utilization standards and best practices.
Ensure that team members provide active customer service and hospitality toward students and educational leaders while addressing any potential issues
Resource Management
Ensure employees are equipped with the necessary tools, inventory, and resources required to meet departmental goals.
Maintain an orderly and fully stocked kitchen and dining area, ensuring cleanliness and organization at all times.
Safety and Compliance
Establish and uphold safety standards by providing training related to safety and equipment maintenance while complying with safety programs and regulations.
Supervise staff activities by delegating authority, prioritizing tasks, and monitoring overall standards to ensure high-quality operations.
Dietary Management
Review and adjust menu items to accommodate dietary restrictions and maintain compliance with mandated nutritional requirements.
Collect payments for food items from students and staff, ensuring accurate transactions and secure fund handling.
Quality Assurance
Inspect food items and work areas to prevent cross-contamination and food borne illnesses, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Ensure that the quality of dishes and beverages meets predetermined standards and all requests from students and school personnel are met.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required. A bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management, food service management, or a related field is preferred.
Candidates must possess a valid ServSafe Manager Certification or be willing to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
Demonstrated experience in a leadership role within the food service industry is essential, showcasing the ability to manage and motivate a team effectively.
A comprehensive understanding of labor laws and food health and safety regulations is required to ensure compliance and maintain a safe working environment.
Experience in cooking, menu planning, and food preparation, particularly in a cafeteria setting, is preferred to ensure quality meal service.
Prior experience working within the National School Lunch Program is also preferred, as it will contribute to the effective management of meals and compliance with program requirements.
Preferred experience working directly with students, preferably required in the charter, private, or public school environment.
Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale at point of hire.
