Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Training & Compliance Management System Specialist to join our Specialty ingredients G.P., business at our Hopewell, VA location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company, and the Plant Engineering and Operations functions. This position will report to the Technical Process Engineering Manager.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinates ongoing department/plant efforts to maintain the CAPA and MOC system by managing workflow and escalating deficiencies to leadership
  • Act as SME for document control system and manage document workflow for the site including training and coaching of the site document coordinators.
  • Assembles and organizes training material for new programs, processes, or procedures.  Reviews, evaluates, and modifies existing and proposed training programs, and recommends appropriate changes so that training meets PSM, GMP, ISO, RC, and/or other regulatory requirements.
  • Develops training packages and progress tracking system for in-plant employee transfers.
  • Conducts formal classroom training, on-the-job-training, and informal coaching as required.
  • Works cross-functionally with other departments to provide guidance to meet training requirements.
  • Develops system for monitoring and maintaining all employee training records and files.
  • Provides reports for customer audits regarding training records.
  • Ensures plant procedures and policies are all up-to-date, accurate, and reviewed as required.
  • Designs SharePoint sites for departments and creates consistent methodology for effective use.
  • Coordinates & participates in new hire orientation and refresher training as required.
  • Arranges management, individual contributor, and front-line personnel training.
  • Assists all departments with training needs.
  • Identifies and defines present and future training needs by conducting job analyses.
  • Lead and coordinate ongoing efforts to streamline document management system.
  • Responsible for updating the document database and ensuring compliance with ISO, GMP and OSHA requirements for document and record control
  • Track document status and communicate outstanding document reviews or approvals to leadership to deliver 100% document control compliance.  
  • Routinely uses word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, and email software.

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or Associates in relevant field of study, with experience
  • 1-3 years' experience developing and leading training or learning environments
  • Extensive PC and Microsoft Suite skills:  including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, Databases, and other pc applications. 
  • Must be well organized and a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) are required. 
  • Must be flexible with ability to adjust to rapid changes in work priorities with the ability to prioritize work to those changes.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing or industrial business operations

PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Individual must be able to respond appropriately during site emergencies as directed by the Site Emergency Manager.  Must be capable of evacuating the manufacturing process areas in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.  The candidate must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit within the manufacturing process area.  This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being performed.  Other physical activities may include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 25 lbs., or reaching depending on the work activity required.  Work is performed in an office/plant environment with frequent trips to the operating units to assess equipment or processes, perform inspections and/or collect data.  May be required to operate Company vehicle on Company business.  Confined space entry may be required.  Training required to perform the job properly may require this position to travel around the United States of America.

Candidate must also have the ability to 1) identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including Corporate, 2) develop and foster a positive work environment at all levels, and 3) resolve conflicts through problem resolution skills.

The individual must also have the ability to identify quality improvement opportunities and formulate action plans for implementation.  This requires exceptional work planning and problem-solving skills.
