Supervisor Engineering Technician (Engineering)

Duties & Responsibilities:

Position Details:

This position supports research and development in the field of optical coatings using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD).  We are currently looking for a supervisor of the engineering technician group. The team's focus is on optical coating materials development, process development, and product development. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with optical thin film coating technology.

Job Description:

• Candidate supervises and guides a team of engineering technicians to fulfill the needs of R&D engineers and other stakeholders.
• Organizes and oversees logistical functions for coating operations, metrology, and maintenance of cleanrooms. Works with other functional leads to guarantee access to shared equipment.
• Develops schedules and manpower requirements. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure efficient operation. Assigns long and short term tasks, monitors progress, and ensures timely completion.
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment.
• Documents procedures and maintains accurate records.
• Evaluates data and communicates results.
• Troubleshoots technical issues and implements solutions.
• The incumbent will provide hands-on laboratory support around vacuum-based processes in cleanrooms and metrology of coated product with spectrophotometers, microscopes, etc.. A portion of the work will be glass handling, cleaning and inspection, and bead blasting.
• The position will be about a 51%/49% split between managerial tasks and individual contribution.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Experience with vacuum technology and processes such as physical vapor deposition
• Strong skills with MS Word and Excel (e.g. contributing to reports, analyzing and charting of data)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in managing a team of technicians, scheduling, employee development
• Hands-on experience with vacuum deposition equipment
• AA or higher degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, physics, or related subject
• Knowledge of optics, experience with transmittance, reflectance, and polarization
