Sound Technician (Project Management)



Supervises staff including hiring, training, and provides coaching or mentoring services to staff as appropriate. Manages, coordinates and executes a wide range of AV-related projects throughout University Theatre. Coordinates technical support and/or assistance with audio-visual equipment in classrooms, conferences, and other spaces. Employ and enforce safety standards, university tools and procedures to provide world-class services campus-wide. Organizes and orders supplies and manages equipment and supply inventories. Maintains the stability and integrity of audio-visual systems and management of audio-visual equipment. Provides world-class customer service all while ensuring projects are managed from start-to-finish in a timely and professional manner. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.

Essential Duties:

  • Supervises staff including hiring, training, and provides coaching or mentoring services to staff as appropriate.
  • Ensures operational continuity of classrooms, conference rooms, and AV technologies university-wide.
  • Manages, coordinates and executes a wide range of AV-related projects throughout the University. This includes working with multiple constituents, contractors and sub-contractors all while serving as a primary client liaison between all necessary parties.
  • Coordinates technical support and/or assistance with audio-visual equipment in classrooms, conferences, and other spaces. ·
  • Employ and enforce safety standards, university tools and procedures to provide world-class services campus-wide.
  • Organizes and orders supplies and manages equipment and supply inventories.
  • Maintains the stability and integrity of audio-visual systems and management of audio-visual equipment.
  • Provides world-class customer service all while ensuring projects are managed from start-to-finish in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position. 

Department Description:

  • Work with students to Install or oversee installation of sound and communication systems, media/projections systems, closed circuit camera systems in University Theatre production
  • Maintain wireless microphone systems
  • Maintain sound equipment and projection/media equipment inventory and appropriate storage areas
  • Work with other staff during designated lab working hours, guiding the work of UGA students and lab students
  • Work with student design/production teams to respond to rehearsal notes in a timely manner. Advise team on best actions
  • Attend shop and production meetings as needed
  • Attend designated tech rehearsals as needed
  • Work with University Theatre staff and faculty members to develop plans to improve resources available in Media and Sound areas
  • Work with students to develop a strike plan

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree, AND:

  • 48 months of experience in audio-visual troubleshooting, support, installation, engineering, or system design

Equivalency Substitution: Will accept 48 months of experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 96 months related experience.

Skills:

  • Read and understand complex written materials such as blueprints, metrics or technical manuals.
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication Excellent time management, organization skills
  • Experience in scheduling and conducting meetings Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Basic knowledge of enterprise technologies such as networks, storage, identity management, cloud services, security, Windows OS, Mac OS, desktop solutions, Microsoft Office suite, etc. Familiarity with video conferencing solutions
  • Ensure safe work guidelines and best practices are followed.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects in excess of 50+ lbs.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to climb, crouch, bend, or stoop.
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions, grasp, walk, touch, speak, hear, and see.
  • Ability to perform overhead-work and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in any place including above or below ground level and on ladders.

Department Preferences:

  • Experiences with multiple brands and configurations of wireless microphone systems
  • Experience with Yamaha, Digico, and SoundCraft brand mixing consoles
  • Mixing experience in multiple configurations
  • Experience with theatre communication systems such as ClearCon
  • Experience installing and maintaining video projectors of different manufacturers
  • Experience with LED screens and other similar media
  • Experience with closed-circuit camera systems
  • Software experience including: Vectorworks, QLab, Yamaha, and Digico online editing software, Adobe Suite, DAW software (including Pro Tools), Green Hippo
