WL - CNC Machinist - 2nd Shift (Finance)



Summary:

The CNC Machinist performs the programming, maintenance, setup and operation of metal-cutting multi-axis CNC machines. This role is crucial to support the production of motors designed to endure exposure to combat, rigorous shock, and saltwater for decades of use. The CNC Machinist plays a critical role to ensure each motor is built to accommodate the severe duty requirements of the U.S. Navy fleet.

Essential Functions:

Set up, program, operate and troubleshoot 5-axis machining centers, multi-axis Lathes, large VTL's and cylindrical grinders independently

  • Loads raw materials and unloads completed parts
  • Selects appropriate tooling and fixtures
  • Adjusts tooling and work offsets
  • Makes adjustments to assure dimensions, tolerances and quality of parts
  • Performs inspection of own parts and co-worker's work
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment including top-off lubricants
  • Cleaning responsibilities include equipment, chip removal, and work area
  • Follows established procedures as well as quality and safety standards
  • Contributes to continuous improvement and 6S initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Experience/Skills:

  • 5+ years' experience in programming CNC controlled machinery (Familiarity with DMG Mori "CELOS" and Siemens SINUMERIK 840D SL control is a plus)
  • Knowledge of CNC machining, including milling, turning, grinding and close tolerance manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of appropriate cutting data for machining a variety of materials including ductile iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, nickel alloys, and aluminum
  • Ability to use precision tools for Quality Control and be able to take accurate measurements
  • Ability to read blueprints to ASME Y14.5 (GD&T), schematics and manuals
  • Experience in an ISO certified working environment - ISO 9001:2008 or ISO 9001:2015
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive team player

Education / Certification:

  • Must possess at least 5+ years of work experience CNC machining processes and programming in a Machine Shop environment. Vocational training or a technical diploma in CNC machining processes and programming a plus.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Job requires standing - some of the work can be done while seated. Since overhead cranes are available in all work areas, Technicians are not required to lift more than 50 pounds. Frequent lifting/carrying of 10 lbs
  • Wears and complies with all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) applicable to work area, including but not limited to eye protection and safety shoes.
  • Follows all safety rules applicable to machine as stated on posted signs and in Company policy.
