Machining operations used for salvage, re-use, modifications to Caterpillar components and parts, development and manufacturing of custom parts on occasion. Must have good problem-solving skills, be innovative and ability to maintain equipment and components in a manner that reflects the company's vision of working as “One Professional Team.”

Job Shop Machinist may or may not work with supervision based on skill set and industry experience. Must have knowledge, understanding and ability to safely operate manual horizontal/vertical mills and lathes, operation of Rottler F99 block machining center helpful but not required. Ability to accurately measure using calipers, micrometers, internal/external, read and understand blueprints. Understanding of feeds and speeds, threading and cutting applications and ability to identify material used/needed, CNC knowledge helpful but not necessary.

Pay rate:  $28.74 - $40.60 per hour
Pay rate is dependent upon education & experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares inspection and appraisal reports
  • Orders replacement parts as needed
  • Completes salvage inspections, interprets results, and performs or recommends corrective action on parts
  • Arranges with supervisor for all sublet or component work required to minimize idle time
  • Makes recommendations as to repairs meeting warranty criteria or being caused by abuse or normal wear or rework
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots failure, mechanical conditions, and reparability on equipment and components
  • Recommends actions to correct failures or problems
  • Reconditions or fabricates major parts to manufacturer's specification
  • Determines reusability of parts in accordance with published guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Teaches and provides guidance to lower class Machinists

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years' experience as a machinist in the heavy equipment industry
  • 1-3 years administrative/clerical experience
  • 1-3 years customer service experience

Physical Demands & Competencies:

  • Standing, walking, talking, sitting, use of hands & hearing
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, etc.
  • Heavy work that includes lifting and/or moving objects up to 96 pounds or more
  • Data Entry, telephone, reading/writing, reasoning, organizational, communication & math skills
  • Safety & Product Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of DBS and ET/SIS/SIS Web/STW

Work Environment:

  • Noise: Loud
  • Indoors and Outdoors
