School Counselor (2023-2024) - 1.0 FTE (Finance)
Conduct individual and group sessions to address students' personal, social, and emotional concerns on a short-term basis
Assist students in developing effective study skills, time management, and goal-setting strategies
Provide guidance on course selection, career exploration, and college planning
Help students resolve conflicts and develop healthy relationships with peers and teachers
Collaborate with teachers and parents to develop appropriate interventions for students experiencing academic or behavioral difficulties
Provide classroom instruction on social-emotional skills as assigned
Attend meetings with academic staff and school leadership, the community, students, and others, as needed
Adhere to Nova Classical policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned
Academic Support
Monitor students' academic progress and identify areas of improvement or concern
Conduct the process of student course registration and schedule building
Assist students in setting academic goals and developing strategies to enhance their learning
Lead all aspects of testing related to career and college readiness including Advanced Placement exams, ACT, PSAT, etc.
College & Career Counseling
Guide students through the college application process, including researching colleges, preparing application materials, and exploring financial aid options
Provide information and resources about career pathways, vocational training, and job opportunities
Assist students in identifying their interests, strengths, and career goals
Service as the school liaison for college and career fairs, workshops, and informational sessions
Crisis Intervention & Mental Health Support
Respond to and assess students in crisis situations, providing immediate support and referrals when necessary
Collaborate with external mental health professionals and community resources to coordinate services for students in need
Promote mental health awareness and provide resources for students, teachers, and parents
Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans for students exhibiting signs of self-harm or suicidal ideation
Participate in crisis response teams and other relevant school committees
Collaborative Partnerships
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to support students' overall well-being
Attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and develop intervention strategies
Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance counseling skills and stay updated on best practices
Build relationships with community organizations and agencies to connect students and families with external resources
Participate in school-wide initiatives, committees, and activities aimed at promoting a positive school climate
