Digital Preservation Librarian (Finance)

Description:

The University of Houston (UH) Libraries seeks a collaborative and creative candidate for the position of Digital Preservation Librarian. This position is part of the Preservation and Reformatting department, which is responsible for ensuring the long-term access and preservation of collections materials in all formats under UH Libraries stewardship. Reporting to the Head of Preservation and Reformatting, the Digital Preservation Librarian will develop and execute policies and workflows, and manage the Libraries' digital preservation system, Archivematica.

At a broader level, the successful candidate is expected to collaborate with librarians, archivists, and external partners, such as the Texas Digital Library and the National Digital Stewardship Alliance (NDSA), to provide guidance on digital preservation best practices. The position will work closely with colleagues across Libraries departments, including Library Technology Services, Special Collections, Resource Management and Metadata, and Research Services.

The Digital Preservation Librarian is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Libraries' Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians, and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning.

Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program
- Experience with digital preservation standards and best practices, such as NDSA's Levels of Digital Preservation, PREMIS metadata standard, and recommended file formats for digital preservation
- Experience using digital preservation systems and software
- Ability to work strategically and collaboratively with stakeholders
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills

Preferred:
- Knowledge of metadata standards and formats used for cultural heritage collections

Salary: $63,500-$65,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.
