Survey Party/Crew Chief II (Architecture)



Ardurra is seeking a Field Survey Party/Crew Chief II to join our staff in Tampa, FL. 

We believe a quality survey forms the basis for a successful design, and whether we're establishing boundary lines, collecting topographic data, or staking improvements for construction, we know it has to be accurate and timely. Ardurra utilizes a blend of the latest technologies along with tried and true survey practices to form the best possible basis for your project.

GPS, robotic total stations, aerial lidar, drone imagery, digital levels, and more all combine to allow our top-notch field personnel to produce clear, accurate, and useful maps including boundary surveys, topographic maps, 3D models, sketch & legal descriptions. We have experience with all sizes of projects for both private and public sector clients.

Primary Function:

Reports directly to Survey Group Leader and any may receive project assignments and direction from various Survey Project Managers. Responsible for completion of various field surveying assignments by using procedures and techniques appropriate to the task or assignment to be completed. Clearly and legibly record all pertinent field notes and information in proper field books as required based on task assignment. Field Crew Leaders are responsible for training, direct supervision and safety of all field technicians as assigned. Ensures all appropriate safety procedures, precautions, and traffic control devices are properly placed prior to start of daily field survey operations. Responsible for organization, maintenance, and safe operation of assigned survey vehicles. Reports to Field Crew Manager and Project Surveyor for daily project briefings and debriefings as the case may be. Upload and download field data daily or as directed. Some survey project assignments may require travel including overnight stays.

Primary Duties:

  • Arrive at work on time, properly dressed, and prepared to go to work.
  • Proficient with and properly uses all survey equipment and devices required for completion of survey tasks and assignments.
  • Prepares clear, concise, and legible field notes.
  • Direction and assistance with clearing of brush and trees on lines using various brush clearing tools.
  • Properly place appropriate safety and traffic control devices daily, prior to start of work.
  • Properly wear appropriate safety equipment and clothing.
  • Location of metallic markers using magnetic location equipment.
  • Ensures work truck is well organized, clean, and stocked with day-to-day supplies.
  • Ensures all equipment batteries are properly charged and stored for use.
  • Proficient with use of data collector setup and capable of troubleshooting problems.
  • Uses prescribed point and line coding, and correctly saves collected points.
  • Represents the company in a respectful, polite, and professional manner.
  • Uses proper field procedures for conducting various types of surveys.
  • Identifies toxic plants, dangerous animals, and insects.
  • Capable of common tree identification.
  • Trains others in basic first aid.
  • Familiar with Florida Standards of Practice for Surveyors and Mappers as related to General Surveying and Mapping as well as Boundary Surveying procedures.
  • Obtain OSHA 10-hour safety certification course (company provided).

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. Knowledge of basic math (addition/subtraction, multiplication and division).
  • Requires at least 2 years of survey field experience, a good attitude, and the ability to work with a team.
  • Proficient with the use of field data collector, electronic total station, and digital and optical levels.
  • Functional with Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the motivation to follow instructions completely and accurately while working in rough terrain and inclement weather.
  • Possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Pass vehicle insurance underwriting to become a qualified driver of company vehicles.
  • Ability to occasionally travel and work out of town from time to time as workload requires
  • Familiarity with the Florida Standards of Practice is a plus.

Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. over rough terrain may be required. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of field equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, speak, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell. Able to get in and out of vehicle multiple times a day; drive 30 to 60 miles daily. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential function of this job. The employee works outside in all types of weather conditions, possibly for extended periods of time. The terrain may be rough, steep, wet or swampy. Vegetation may be dense, and insects, snakes or animals may be encountered.
