PURPOSE OF POSITION: This temporary position performs entry-level to semi-skilled technical office and field GIS and asset management functions of the City.
This position will work 30-40 hours per week approximately May through July.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Create new GIS datasets based upon existing standards.
Collect and enter geospatial and attribute data in the office and field with GPS, ESRI ArcGIS, and asset-management hardware, software, and mobile applications.
Create, edit, and update features in geodatabases and shapefiles.
Scan and relate plans, manuals, etc. to GIS assets.
Assist in field verification (as needed) of existing assets to best update and manage GIS asset data.
Perform other work related to the operation and maintenance of the City's GIS applications and asset management systems.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists all divisions as required to accomplish the goals of the Public Works Department.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY:
Basic knowledge of Public Works infrastructure: underground utility piping, pavements, structures, and appurtenances.
Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and drawings.
Ability to read and interpret legal property descriptions.
Basic knowledge of municipal planning and zoning terminology and practices.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS desktop 10.x and ArcGIS Online.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to safely operate a City Vehicle.
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
Ability to learn and apply city policies and regulations which impact departmental activities.
Ability to plan and organize a personal work schedule, set priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, other employees, and municipal officials.
1. Must possess a valid Nebraska driver's license. 2. Must be bondable. 3. Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire. 4. High school diploma or G.E.D., with a minimum of one (1) completed year college or vocational coursework in GIS, Geography, Geology, Civil Engineering, or related field of study in an accredited college program.

Work is generally performed indoors in an office setting and requires routine bending, lifting and carrying office supplies, books, files and other materials. The incumbent is required to frequently sit for extended periods of time, talk, hear and must have the ability to transport themselves to and from various locations. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various other pieces of equipment. While performing the duties, the incumbent is required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms. Work hours may occasionally be required in times of darkness. Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level is usually quiet or moderate.
Work requires extensive interaction with the general public/employees and may be stressful when dealing with citizens/employees and/or meeting deadlines.
