UTHealth
Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor, Obstetric Anesthesiologist - Anesthesiology, McGovern Medical School (Finance)
About Our Division:
Our Obstetric Anesthesiology Division comprises a team of eight core OB fellowship-trained anesthesiologists and 30 faculty members. We collectively provide obstetric anesthesia services for approximately 8500 deliveries annually.
We specialize in managing a wide array of high-risk obstetric cases, including patients with morbidly adherent placenta (MAP), cardiac disease, systemic autoimmune disease, bleeding disorders, hypertensive disease, and fetal abnormalities from our fetal center. Our dedicated OB anesthesia clinic, led by core faculty, provides monthly evaluations for these high-risk patients. Approximately 80-85% of our patients receive anesthesia care.
We are proud of our ACGME-certified Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship program, approved for two fellows, ensuring the next generation of leaders in our field receives exceptional training. Our fellows gain exposure to a large variety of high-risk obstetric cases and multi-disciplinary team approaches in various settings, including the main operating room and HVI, where we collaborate closely with the anesthesia and cardiac team. Fellows also have access to advanced training in Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), Maternal and Fetal Medicine, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Fetal Center cases, and elective rotations with an emphasis on clinical research and scholarly activities.
