The University of Houston-Downtown is an anchor institution located in the heart of the fourth largest city in the U.S., minutes away from the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. UHD is one of the most serves over 14,000 students from both undergraduate and graduate programs. UHD is recognized as a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and a Minority-Serving Institution (MSI). UHD is a teaching university; full-time faculty teach a 4-3 course load. Tenure-track faculty are granted one course release in their first year. This vacancy is in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, which houses five community-facing centers available for collaborative opportunities, including the Center for Latino Studies, the Center for Social Inquiry & Transformation, and the Center for Public Deliberation.

The Psychology department invites applications for up to one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2026. Psychology is the University's largest major, with 15 tenured/tenure-track faculty. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, and service has prepared them to support our shared commitment to excellence. The research specialty area is open. An active research agenda in the field and engagement in service at the institution will be expected of the candidate who joins our department.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have received a Ph.D. in psychology or a related applied discipline from a regionally-accredited institution by the time of employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates will demonstrate the ability to establish an active publication record; engage in service activities at the university; utilize inclusive teaching methods that promote student success; and teach across multiple course modalities. Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in their specialty area, as well as Research Methods and/or Statistics.
