POSITION SUMMARY

Matthews Marking Systems is seeking a strategic Director, Hardware Product Development to lead our engineering teams in building innovative and market-leading solutions for marking and coding. You will apply your broad experience in hardware product development to bring strategic leadership to a globally diverse development team building both evolutionary and revolutionary products for the marking and coding space. Your experience allows you to bring both best practices and emerging technologies to bear for speed of execution and innovative solutions.
As Director of Hardware Product Development, you will report to the Vice President of Engineering. You will be directly influencing product and technology strategy at an executive level and be working cross-functionally to ensure high quality, market-focused products with superior customer experience. You will be building world-class engineering teams to tackle the next generation of hardware and software products.   • Managing multiple concurrent engineering projects with a focus on schedules, budgets and resource allocation
  • Building product development team capabilities through resource analysis, hiring, mentoring and training
  • Assisting the development team to attain optimal performance by removing technical obstacles

  • Working with Product Managers and other leaders to define new products and coordinate development across multiple teams and groups
  • Collaborating with business leadership to define and execute goals, strategy and vision

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • 15+ years of progressive engineering experience and responsibility in manufacturing commercial products preferably with specific domain experience in printers or marking equipment
  • 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline, Master's preferred
  • Experience with both hardware and software product development, including embedded software
  • Experience managing joint development with third party vendors, outsourced development, as well as acquired engineering resources
  • Proven track record of hiring and recruiting technical talent
  • Experience in product lifecycle programs from conception to retirement, including New Product Development / Stage Gate for hardware and Agile for software or hardware
  • Strong desire to play a key leadership role in communicating and owning program success
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex program status into succinct updates for upper management while translating broad requirements into specific technical detail for development teams
  • Meticulous attention to details
  • An attitude that fosters cooperation across diverse functional and geographical teams
