Assistant/Associate/Full Professor-Division of Surgical Research (Finance)



The Department of Surgery at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine is seeking to hire \"2\" Basic Science-Open Rank Faculty to join the Department of Surgery / Research Division.

Tenured/Tenure-track faculty position (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor)
The Department of Surgery in the Morsani College of Medicine of the University of South Florida (USF) invites applications for tenured/tenure-track faculty positions in the Division of Surgical Research. We seek applicants with an excellent record of achievement to join our interdisciplinary and interactive faculty. Expertise is required in studying fundamental and translational aspects in the pathophysiology of diseases relevant to the broad field of surgical research, with particular emphasis on cardiovascular, cardiopulmonary or cerebrovascular function in inflammatory disease processes.

Applicants should have a MD, PhD or equivalent degree and a strong publication track record, commensurate with experience and rank. Candidates for appointments at all levels must have current extramural funding, evidence of active contribution to graduate training and/or medical education. Physician scientists are encouraged to apply. Candidates chosen are expected to maintain an independent, extramurally funded research program.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.

PREFERRED:
  • Must have current extramural funding (R01 level equivalent, K99/R00 awards are acceptable for applicants at the Assistant Professor level)

  • Teaching Duties: Candidates are expected to contribute to graduate and/or medical school education
  • Research Duties: To perform basic and translational research related to the pathophysiology of diseases relevant to the broad field of surgical research, with particular emphasis on cardiovascular, cardiopulmonary or cerebrovascular function in inflammatory disease processes, publish in major peer-reviewed journals and maintain an independent, extramurally funded research program.
  • Administrative Duties: Candidates are expected to serve on departmental, MCOM or University Committees as deemed appropriate by the Chair and Dean of MCOM
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
    • Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
    • Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
    • Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
    • May represent the university, college/school, or department.
