Organizational Unit

The Department of Medical Education (DME) in the Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) is headed by Dr. Bryan Bognar, Chair & Vice Dean for Educational Affairs. Dr. Bognar is responsible for the oversight of the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) program and Graduate programs curriculum, all MCOM student services (Student Affairs, Admissions, Student & Community Engagement, the Experiential Learning Center), the School of Physical Therapy, the Athletic Training Education Program, and the Physician Assistant program. The Chair/Vice Dean also works collaboratively with Graduate Medical Education (GME), Continuing Professional Development, and the Deans for the College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing and College of Public Health to advance the education mission across the MCOM and USF Health. DME (including the MCOM student services) currently consists of 10 faculty members and ~ 50 administrators / staff members. The primary clients for DME are the medical students, DPT students, PA students, the doctoral, post-doc / masters students, and the faculty / staff educators for the medical and graduate program curriculum. The department interacts with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and healthcare providers across USF Health, USF and other institutions.

Position Summary

This position is an advisor for the Morsani College of Medicine; Office of MD Admissions. The Admissions Recruiter/Advisor provides support to the Office of MD Admissions through coordinating interview days, main campus recruitment activities, management and processing of applicant files for accepted students, administrative support to the Assistant Dean of MD Admissions, and advising of prospective applicants. Assists maintaining relationships with schools, pre-health advisors, and prospective students for the MD program. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of MD Admissions. The position requires some public contact; extended hours and light travel at times; and tact, diplomacy and sensitivity to confidential matters.

This position is based at the USF Health Downtown Tampa Campus.Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Master's degree in Marketing, Communication, Education or other related field; or a Bachelor's degree in those same fields with a minimum of one year of directly related experience. Alternatively, in specialized academic areas, the position may require a degree in that field of study. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position.

SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements

  • Four years of direct experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree
  • Six years of direct experience may substitute for a Master's degree

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, Excellent customer service skills, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to confidential materials. Experience with higher education student databases such as AMCAS or Banner.

  • Advise, communicate and establish concierge-like relationships with prospective students, students in the applicants pool, and those who are invited for an MD interview. Oversee and customize the interview day activities to cater to the specific group of interviewees. Follow up with interviewees and their parents via phone, email and other materials to respond to their queries and keep them connected to MCOM until they are accepted. Assist with organizing meetings/tours with the Student Admissions Leadership Group (SALG) and \"Second Look\" event.
  • Assist in coordinating admissions recruitment and outreach process. Work with USF main campus groups and organizations to promote and market USF MCOM. Broaden relationships with undergraduate students and pre-health advisors during visits and tours. Attend local events when needed.
  • Provide administrative support to the Assistant Dean of MD Admissions to include scheduling appointments, processing travel requests and reimbursements, and scheduling in-state/out-of-state recruitment event. Serve as leave coordinator for the office of MD Admissions. Data entry of student information into Banner.
  • Provide administrative support for the admission process and Medical Student Selection Committee (MSSC). Support includes scheduling, document production and distribution, attendance at MSSC meetings, and taking meeting minutes. Manage MD Admissions website and organize accepted student documents for Registrar.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Admissions.
