Title:  Quality Assurance Specialist

Location:  Remote/Nationwide

Security Clearance: Moderate Risk Background Investigation (MBI)

Schedule: This is a full-time position that typically works business hours Monday through Friday. Hours may vary depending on needs and may at times include travel, evenings, or weekends to meet specific project requirements or time zones.

Salary Range: $55,000-65,000

Job Summary: 

The Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining the quality assurance framework for the NamUs program. This role ensures data accuracy, program compliance with standards, and continuous process improvement across all service areas including forensic, analytical, and outreach functions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Design and manage internal quality control procedures in line with DOJ and NIJ standards. 
  • Conduct regular audits of case records, forensic data, and program documentation for accuracy and completeness. 
  • Monitor and report on performance metrics, quality incidents, and corrective actions. 
  • Collaborate with forensic and program staff to implement improvements and risk mitigation strategies. 
  • Support external quality assessments and assist in preparing for audits or reviews by accreditation bodies. 
  • Develop and deliver quality assurance reports and recommendations to program leadership. 
  • Coordinate internal audits and quality inspections to ensure compliance with federal guidelines and contract deliverables. 
  • Maintain documentation of all quality processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and corrective action plans. 
  • Track and trend quality-related incidents and identify opportunities for training and process refinement. 
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to provide quality insight on new program initiatives and system enhancements. 
  • Ensure consistent application of quality protocols across all regional and forensic teams. 
  • Develop tools (e.g., checklists, dashboards) to support real-time quality monitoring and performance benchmarking. 
  • Support onboarding and refresher training efforts related to quality standards and documentation best practices. 
  • Serve as the primary liaison for quality-related communications with NIJ, COR, and external auditing bodies. 
  • Attend required internal and external training and at least one national in-person user group/professional training meeting per year. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, criminal justice, or related area. 
  • At least 3 years of experience in quality assurance, compliance, or program evaluation. 
  • Experience in an ISO-accredited or federally regulated environment is preferred. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement abilities, including cross-cultural communication and collaboration with tribal communities. 
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy in case documentation. 
  • Proficiency in data entry systems and Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Familiarity with quality standards applicable to forensic and investigative programs. 
  • Proficiency in quality management tools and reporting platforms (e.g., Excel, Power BI). 
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Clearance: 

  • Moderate Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government background investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Security Requirements/Background Investigation Requirements: 

  • Must be a U.S Citizen
  • Residency requirement - 3 consecutive years in the last 5 years. 
  • Successfully passing a background investigation including drug screening.    

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Alternate Sitting or Standing at Will: The employee has the flexibility to choose between sitting or standing as needed.  
  • Walking/Mobility: Must have mobility to attend meetings.  
  • Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0% - 10% of the time. 
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0% - 10% of the time. 
  • Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write type (55 wpm), enter text or data into a computer or other machine by means of a traditional keyboard 100% of the time. 
  • Sitting: Sitting for prolonged and extended periods of time.
