Director of Development (Finance)



The Director of Development, College of Nursing is the chief philanthropy officer with the primary purpose of leading the fundraising and alumni engagement efforts for the departments, institutes and centers within the College of Nursing. Building relationships with the dean, department chairs and research staff is critical for the success of this position. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Development, the Director collaborates with colleagues in the department and USF Foundation to support proactive and reactive fundraising. Working with the dean and the Sr. Director of Development, the Director develops a compelling case of support including annual and long-term fundraising goals. The Director will participate in growing alumni programming leading to solicitation opportunities. The incumbent will have metric-based goals and carry a portfolio comprised of patients, friends and alumni.This position requires Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience related to development or other appropriate professional experience. Five to seven years of experience in a development position demonstrating the ability to close major gifts (six-figure and above) is preferred. Preferential consideration will also be given to candidates with a history working in a university healthcare setting.

Fundraising activities include prospect identification, qualification and cultivation; development of proposals; solicitation and stewardship.

Working with the Dean of Nursing and Sr. Director of Development, develops fundraising and alumni engagement goals, programs and projects. Coordinates with the Dean to ensure the strategies are implemented effectively including scheduling prospective donor and donor visits with the Dean, preparing the Dean for the visits, providing regular feedback on the status of fundraising, etc.

Serve as a member of USF Health Advancement bringing creativity & innovation to the team's fundraising initiatives. Intentionally build & invest in developing strong relationships with College of Nursing leaders & faculty to promote a culture of philanthropy. Identify & facilitate opportunities for university leaders & colleagues to support the cultivation & solicitation of prospective donors. Develop strong relationships w/Advancement leadership, staff & departments to leverage the tools & resources available to ensure prospects and donors have a meaningful experience w/USF.

Participates in the planning and implementation of donor and alumni events as needed. Attends donor and alumni events.

Constantly seek an up-to-date understanding of initiatives and programs (product knowledge) at the College of Nursing and the University of South Florida. Stay abreast of industry trends to integrate best practices into daily work. Collaborate with leaders and colleagues at USF to create an environment that fosters continuous learning.
