R&D Engineer/Scientist I (Finance)



R&D Engineer Scientist I

The scientific programmer will work within a team of scientists that use a variety of analytical techniques in the Materials Characterization group to support characterization of materials and process data streams from R&D labs and pilot plants. This position will support the development, implementation and maintenance of digital solutions and automated data workflow to enhance analytical characterization work.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement automated data processing solutions: Assess the feasibility and practicality of automating laboratory data workflow processes from laboratory equipment to LIMS systems and data storage solutions.

• Provide technical support and training to laboratory staff on the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Identify potential enhancements through collaboration with end users, management and the technical support team.

• Develop and implement systems to track laboratory performance metrics

• Develop and maintain software tools and work processes for data: This includes writing and documenting code for tasks such as data acquisition, processing, storage, quality control, analysis, and reporting and troubleshooting issues.

• Translate customer requirements into technical specifications: Understand the needs of laboratory personnel and researchers and translate them into detailed specifications for digital solution development.

• Collaborate within and across teams and external vendors: Work with research scientists, engineers, and other specialists to identify project needs and ensure computational strategies align with overall goals. Interface with instrument vendors as needed to support digital solution implementation needs.

• Document code and procedures and prepare training guides for digital solutions.As an R&D Engr/Scientist I here at Honeywell, you will drive innovative solutions in materials science, electronics, sensors, and controls. • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., chemistry, biology, computer science, engineering)

WE VALUE:

• 2+ years' experience with analytical characterization techniques, laboratory work processes and data analysis

• Proficiency in scientific programming for physical sciences

• Familiarity with programming languages including C# (Windows Forms), Python, SQL (MS SQL Server), and Excel VBA.

• Experience with software tools such as Visual Studio, Jupyter Notebooks, Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, MatPlotLib, LabView, JMP, VBA, MATLAB, Origin, Tableau, and Power BI.

• Proficiency in database management systems like SQL Server, Oracle, and Access for data storage, querying, and manipulation.

• Familiarity with laboratory information management systems and structured data principles, including the design of relational database tables.

• Ability to effectively manage multiple competing projects and priorities

• Analytical and problem solving skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze and interpret data, identify issues, and recommend solutions.

• Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate with colleagues from various disciplines.

• Technical writing skills: Ability to clearly and concisely document procedures, reports, and analyses.

• Knowledge of laboratory practices: Familiarity with laboratory equipment, procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory guidelines (eg. ISO or GMP)

• Experience with laboratory instrumentation and software: experience with analytical laboratory equipment software and data files, experience with laboratory information systems (LIMS) or electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN)

The annual base salary range for this position is $66,000-$83,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
