Quality Inspector / Topeka (Manufacturing)

This shift is Monday to Friday from 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. located at 536 Michigan Street in Topeka, Indiana. POSITION STATEMENT: The Quality Inspector will be able to efficiently inspect needed products in a skilled manner. In the completion of these duties, he or she will provide a necessary link between efficient use of time, materials, and inspecting quality products for customers of Wieland Designs, Inc.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to read English clearly
  • Ability to write English clearly
  • Bilingual is a plus
  • Ability to communicate and work with a diverse group of people
  • Basic math skills, with the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Ability to read a ruler up to 1/32 of an inch
  • On-time attendance and good attendance record is a must
  • Must be able to work in a Team environment
  • Must be adaptable to working in multiple build areas.
  • Must be able to follow direction and communicate direction clearly
  • Understand and apply internal and external customer expectations
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision
  • Work overtime as needed and if given short notice

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative and Business Skills:

  • Maintain quality records of inspections and other similar records
  • Basic computer skills, will provide training as needed

Technical Skills:

  • Read and understand work instructions and specifications
  • Understand how to read and interrupt drawings, will provide training as needed
  • Read and understand job traveler also known as a schedule of product, or daily schedule, will provide training as needed
  • Be able to maintain an organized work area
  • Knowledge of the 5S principles a plus, will provide training as needed
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and 13485 a plus, will provide training as needed
  • Knowledge of performing corrective actions a plus
  • Prior Internal Auditors training a plus, will provide training as needed
  • Sewing experience, a plus

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Communicate results of inspecting duties to supervisors, team leaders, and other parties.

Physical demands and work environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical demands: Must be able to stand 8 – 10 hours per day when performing duties. Repetitive movements required with arms and hands while lifting product to inspect product. Must have good visual ability to determine to make color distinctions on various fabric and materials. Must be able to lift 8 – 10 pounds consistently, and occasionally 40 pounds.
  • Work environment: Consistent low noise level from staple guns. Small airborne dust particles created from handling cloth fabrics. Department is not air-conditioned. Must be able to work in a non-air-conditioned production plant.
