Electric Distribution Engineering Specialist (Finance)
Design, detail and prepare projects, work orders, material lists and construction drawings for extension of overhead and underground electric lines. Update all computer based drawings and databases during planning and when project is completed.
Perform field work and basic surveying for development of work orders and provide on-site construction management and inspection to ensure design specifications are met as needed.
Develop planning/design procedures, specifications and documentation.
Under general instruction, perform independently with minimal supervision to achieve daily objectives and address critical/complex assignments.
Propose solutions supported by sound engineering and operational productivity to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.
Coordinate project activities with contractors, developers, municipalities and consultants.
Coordinate and secure permits for railroad right of way construction.
Develop, maintain and update departmental databases, mapping systems and associated source documentation.
Work with outside agencies and utilities to obtain permits for right of way, construction and pole attachments.
Prepare easements, including research and completion of appropriate forms and documentation.
Develop and provide geographic information system (GIS) data as requested.
Assist in managing quality assurance and quality control of all electric system GIS and asset management data.
Prepare estimates for work orders, budgets and customers contributions and charges.
Process paperwork relative to new construction including, but not limited to; service applications, permit applications, joint use agreements etc.
Coordinate projects between Electric Distribution and warehouse.
Serve as backup to the Administrative Coordinator in managing field crews, contractors and OMS software.
Assist with the training of new employees.
Perform all other tasks as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology; or equivalent education and experience.
Ability to read and understand highway/road prints, blue prints and electrical diagrams along with an ability to identify conflicts with existing electric facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for work projects.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Project management and time management skills.
Valid Michigan driver's license.
Ability to make mathematical calculations to determine proper sizing of electrical facilities.
Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate positively and effectively with other organizational personnel and customers.
Comprehensive knowledge and skill in using complex applications including Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Esri ArcMap GIS, NJUNs, Spidacalc and Infor EAM.
Ability to troubleshoot complex network problems and deliver innovative solutions.
Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience in a technical discipline.
Experience with design and documentation of electric distribution infrastructure (aerial and underground), vault and conduit infrastructure.
Experience in electrical construction and basic surveying.
Effective workplace skills as demonstrated through WorkKeys assessments (Workplace Documents - 5, Applied Math - 5, Graphic Literacy - 5).
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Physical ability to travel to various work locations and to perform the duties listed above.
Normal office environment with minimum discomfort due to noise, dirt and dust.
Work includes occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions, fumes, odors, noise, dust, dirt etc.
Mental ability to frequently handle pressures related to working on multiple projects requiring attention to detail with minimal supervision.
