Active Older Adults (AOA) Group Fitness Instructor (Part-Time) (Finance)



Department: Campus Recreation & Wellness

Salary: $20 - $25 per hour, based on experience and certifications

Description:

The Active Older Adults Group Fitness Instructor helps to create a welcoming, engaging, and safe fitness experience for our older adult community. This position is responsible for leading group fitness classes tailored to various ability levels, incorporating a variety of exercise formats to promote strength, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular health. Assists with group fitness class promotion, which may include attending special events, workshops or participating in social media campaigns.

Responsibilities:

• Plans and delivers safe, engaging, and effective group fitness classes for Active Older Adults of all fitness levels.
• Demonstrates proper exercise techniques, modifications, and safety cues.
• Creates a supportive, inclusive environment that fosters participant motivation and community.
• Assists with the development and execution of special events, workshops, and wellness programs.
• Maintains the cleanliness and organization of fitness spaces.
• Stays current on industry trends, continuing education, and certification requirements.
• Represents UHCL Campus Recreation and Wellness in a professional and positive manner.

Required Qualifications:
  1. Current certification from an accredited organization (ACE, ACSM, NASM, AFAA, etc.) OR valid specialty certification (e.g., Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, SilverSneakers®).
  2. Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain before start date.
  3. Strong communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
  4. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous group fitness instruction experience, especially with older adult populations,

Work Environment:

Classes and programs are conducted in campus fitness facilities and may include both indoor and outdoor settings. This position requires standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs., and demonstrating physical activities.
