Principal Aircraft Certification Engineer

Orlando, FL (Hybrid)

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Principal Certification Engineer, with minimal supervision of the Certification Leader, to lead a team of certification engineers and ODA Unit Members in the certification of advanced in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems, aircraft communication systems, and supporting systems.  This role is accountable for one or more certification projects of significant complexity that are of high significance to the enterprise. 

In this position, you will also be responsible for statement-of-compliance that the certified system meets the regulatory and/or airframe manufacturer requirements.

You will need to bring your expertise necessary to lead/manage certification projects consisting of FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) or airframe manufacturer type certificate programs.

Tier 1 - Referral Bonus Payout - $2,500

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead and manage multi-discipline IFEC FAA STC projects, Prepare and/or approve FAA project specific certification plans, Determine test criteria in accordance with airframe manufacturer and/or FAA requirements and witness tests as authorized.
  • Responsible for substantiation data to ensure FAA/airframe manufacturer compliance within area of expertise.
  • Responsible for design review to ensure FAA/airframe manufacturer compliance.
  • Provide guidance for “Unsat” conditions in support of ODA conformity inspection, as authorized; Flow down and explain to program/project teams the certification basis of a given project.
  • Make major/minor determinations per FAA guidance; Define certification processes and procedures.
  • Participate in the certification audits/inquiries and verifies the responses given to the actions before transmission to the customer/authorities; Ensure that certification risks are immediately reported to management; Provide mentorship and share knowledge within organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in engineering with 8 years of relevant work experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; Strong written, and verbal communication skills; Strong analytical skills and be able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner.
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings of various aircraft modifications and identify design changes required to ensure regulatory compliance is maintained.
  • Able to use situational leadership skills to work collaboratively and influence key stakeholders.
  • Able to determine root cause and identify corrective action in support of audit findings.

Special Position Requirements

What We Offer

The anticipated TTC range for this role is $110,026.50 - $180,451.00 USD Annual. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's status protected by local, state, or federal law.

Total Target Cash (TTC): 110,026.50 - 146,702.00 - 180,451.00 USD Annual
